Benjamin Norris is a published author of fiction and poetry, currently living in Budapest and working as a lecturer at a leading arts and architecture university. His work is mainly preoccupied with religious and mythic themes and their introduction into mundane and urban settings, where they can be allowed to expose themselves as continuations of the simplest and most human narratives. Whilst the allusions to the Indian epics are obvious, references and inspiration is taken from sources reaching from Baltic to African narrative cultures.
Benjamin has also worked as an arts journalist for a couple of German magazines, and is heavily involved in the world of visual arts.
Currently working on four thematic short screenplays and a mixed media visual exhibition, he appreciates constructive feedback and thanks you for visiting this uncensored and complete storage unit for all of his creative output.

“Why is this bit being read more than the other bits?” Curiosity, of course. Typically, people are far more interested in the “who” than the “what.” In my defense, it was the remarkable quality of your writing (the “what”) that aroused my interest in learning about the “who” behind the words. While I’ve only read two of your posts, I will definitely return to read many more.
P.S. I share your interest in Hesse. In fact I just read some of his autobiographical writings a few days ago, and was impressed (once again) by the unusual quality of his writing. It’s been many years since I read his major novels, but still feel that they (collectively) remain in the top tier of our literary and/or cultural inheritance.
January 10th, 2009 at 9:07 pm
Oh, many thanks – how very kind of you. I must say this blog has come on a long way since I wrote this fairly informal and slightly daft introduction (I never thought I would stick with it for more than a couple of weeks, let alone half a year), so perhaps it is high time to update.
I agree with you in regards to Hesse – I find his work addictive, his great novels seem to change in small ways each time I read them (it is, of course, me who is changing) and I don’t know another writer who does this to the same extent. I’m re-reading ‘Demian’ at the moment, actually, and re-kindling my fascination in Gnosticism.
Thanks again,
Benjiva

Hi there Benjamin
I only just stumbled upon your blog right now- your writing is wonderful. I’m starting out in the world of composition, and am writing a lot of choral music. Would you be open to me setting your work? If so get back to me at choolun.jaret@gmail.com and we can set something up. I’d be thrilled if you would agree!
Thanks,

Thank you very much, Benjamin, for visiting my blog and for liking two of my posts, African Rain and Autumn Mirrors. I must say you seem to be very talented in many directions. I have only glanced at your last two poems and love what I saw. I hope to look through your blog this weekend and see what else you have done. I see this blog was began in July 2008 so you have been writing for some time. I only began last year and one could say it was by accident or experimentation.
November 24th, 2011 at 8:52 am
Hi Shiny! I enjoyed your pieces and thanks for popping into my space. I’ll keep visiting 🙂
Adeeyoyo: You’re more than welcome, and thanks for visiting. I enjoyed your pieces very much.
I’m more surprised than anyone at how long this blog has been regularly updated – it began as an experiment for me, also, an experiment is patience and persistence which seems to have paid off at least partially. I look forward to more posts from you, you have a lovely lightness in your words.

A very belated thanks for visiting my blog. I’m still learning my way through WordPress and realizing that gmail makes mistakes in regards to spam. It’s a small world – one of my followers spent 11 years in Hungary before going back to the UK.

a most interesting site…you’ve the curse of being multi-talented, ergo, your lament about the other blog not being visited (I followed the link) is a tough one; it is hard to find a home for all of one’s writings (if content is quite diverse). I wish it were not the witching hour for I would love to peruse further…another time, cheers ~
December 14th, 2011 at 11:05 am

Thanks for noticing my blog. I am quite impressed with yours. I hope you will read my work. Clearly we have a mutual interest in myth and its potential for informing modern life. I have written a novel about education that employs the bloody rites of Dionysos as a central motif. Hope you’ll continue following me!

Hello Benjamin, I was just given the “Versatile Blogger Award” and part of the requirements for receiving this award is to pass it along to other bloggers whose blogs are enjoyable and admirable…so, I have nominated your blog for this award. To find out what the rules are, etc., you have to visit my blog and see the posting, “Versatile Blogger Award.” Although this award is nice to receive, I have to admit I did find it a little tedious especially because my “links” option is not working. I hope you enjoy receiving this award. You can nominate up to 15 other bloggers. Cheers!

I noticed you read and liked my short story, ‘His own architect’.
First off, thank you for reading it and while I won’t thank you for liking it because that sounds odd, I will say I appreciate it very much.
However, I was curious – from one writer to another – what did you like about it. It’s rare for me to get feedabck from actual writers – it’s mostly readers or friends of mine.
Any feedback would be more than welcome – shit, even if it’s negative.
Thanks again – and you’re pretty fucking awesome yourself.

So, you like Celery! It did just make me smile on this raw, January day when what I want to see is snow here in Minnesota, and yet what we’ve got is brown drabness. Thanks for visiting my blog. Do you still live in Budapest? I find that fascinating.

Hi Benjamin –
Thanks for hitting the ‘like’ button on my little poem ‘You are my Dream.’
Of course, I wrote that when I was much younger and about a girl who would eventually become my wife. Support and attention from someone of your writing caliber is rewarding and gives me a ‘feel good’ appreciation.
Thank you and my blessing to you and those you love!
